Periods. A simple word surrounded by the most complex taboos, a word always spoken in hushed voices, not meant to be heard by others. Why so?
The cycle which should be liberating is now reduced to nothing but a thing of shame. In our society, which is the modern society we talk about freedom inclusiveness liberation and whatnot but did we ever apply it to periods?Periods is as natural and normal as humans living with equal rights. It's not only a word but a natural thing that cannot be replaced by any other silly name or suppressed to whispers. We rever female goddesses who are a symbol of female assertiveness but we never realised that they too are women and they too menstruate. We celebrate festivals on menstruations which seem empowering but the reality is far from it. Mostly every culture considers periods dirty and a thing not to be talked about. It's not a thing to be shy about ,to be ashamed of, instead it should be a symbol of power, of the resistance that we menstruators possess.
